In our Community-Based mentoring program, volunteers will be matched with a Little/mentee who lives within their geographic area (roughly 15-20 minute drive from your residence). Volunteers will pick their Little up 2-4 times a month and hang out in their community doing activities they are mutually interested in (hikes, going to the library, getting ice cream, etc.). Additionally, volunteers will work with their Little’s parent/guardian to schedule outings at the times that work best for all parties.

BBBSU sends out a monthly activity calendar with different events going on across the state so that matches have a list of low to no-cost activities to explore. Volunteers must be 18 or older to volunteer in this program. Volunteer commitment is roughly 4-8 hours per month.

In our Mentor 2.0 program, volunteers have the option to be matched with a high school student at Kearns High School, Cottonwood High School, or Utah Military Academy. The aim of the program is to help prepare students for post-secondary education.

Matches will message weekly through our MentorPro platform about various academic and life advice topics (think emailing back and forth). Then, typically on the last Wednesday of the month from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, volunteers will meet with their Little at their respective high school. These events are a fun way to connect in-person with your mentee! BBBSU will provide activities, food, and opportunities to connect with other Bigs and Littles.

Volunteers must be 21 or older to volunteer in this program and must hold a degree, professional certification, or have served in the military. Volunteer commitment is roughly 2-4 hours per month.

In our Site-Based mentoring program, high school students will meet weekly with an elementary school student/Little. Volunteers will meet their Littles in the after-school hours at their elementary school (day and time varies by site).

Together, matches will work on BBBSU activities, homework, play games, and hang out with other matches. Volunteers must be Freshman-Juniors in high school to volunteer in this program and must have reliable transportation. Volunteer commitment is roughly 4-6 hours per month.

Available elementary schools are Lincoln, Mountain View, McPolin, Parley’s Park, Trailside, Jeremy Ranch, Panorama, Sunset, Wasatch, South Clearfield.

New this year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah, the University of Utah, and Glendale Middle School will be partnering to provide a twice monthly mentoring program during after-school program hours!

Students from the UoU will travel to Glendale Middle School every other Monday where, alongside their Littles, they will participate in a variety of activities that focus on mentorship, building social skills, avoiding risky behaviors, and setting academic goals. Transportation will be provided.

Twice a year, students from Glendale will have the opportunity to make a field trip to the University of Utah where they will explore campus and learn more about being a college student from their mentor!
