We recognize that sometime the need for service is more immediate or beyond the scope that we can provide. In this list, you will find resources from agencies within our service area. 

Please note, these agencies have no affiliation with Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region. We cannot make a promise for certain on the availability of the services these agencies provide, as often a agency's capacities fluctuate.

100 Families Initiative

  • United Against Poverty, is on a mission to help families move from crisis to stability. 100 Families is a flagship initiative, designed to provide struggling families with the support, resources, and community connections they need to thrive.
  • Through a holistic, relationship-driven approach, families are equipped with tools to overcome challenges such as housing instability, unemployment, healthcare barriers, and lack of support systems. The process includes:

Connecting Families to Resources – Ensuring access to housing, jobs, healthcare, and other essentials.

Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program 
The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) is a temporary emergency program to help low-income households pay overdue water and wastewater bills. For additional assistance, contact your local CACS Service Center go to https://cacs-inc.org/locations/
  
Weatherization  
Capital Area Community Services (CACS) offers free home weatherization assistance to residents of Clinton, Eaton, Ingham and Shiawassee Counties. The program is designed to help lower fuel costs by making homes more energy efficient. To qualify for the Weatherization Assistance Program, your total household income cannot exceed 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Both homeowners and renters may participate in this program. Renters must get prior approval from their landlord, and have their landlord sign an agreement for Weatherization services. Family Services 
Variety of workshops for children and families, as well as support from family advocates and early intervention specialists. Contact your local CACS services center for more information on current workshops and supports available. https://cacs-inc.org/family-services/ 

Tax Preparation Services  
Free income tax preparation is offered to income-eligible individuals and families in conjunction with VITA. Services offered: Federal, State, and Local income tax prep, EITC Tax Credits, Homestead Property Tax credits, Home Heating Tax Credits, E-filing, and Property Tax Foreclosure Prevention. Contact your local CACS services center for more information.

Care Free Medical
Insurance and Payment Information: Care Free accepts individuals regardless of insurance status, and helps uninsured individuals navigate the healthcare system to enroll in any coverage they may be eligible for from local, state, and federal government. Care Free offers a sliding-fee discount for all patients whose income is 200% or less of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). If your income is 100% or less of the Federal Poverty Level, you will receive a full discount.  Care Free also offers payment plans for patients unable to pay the balances they owe.  We do not turn patients away due to an inability to pay.

Family Mental Health Counseling Program

  • Provides counseling on a variety of issues such as anxiety/ depression, PTSD, family issues, behavioral issues, and grief. Accepts most insurance and if uninsured uses sliding fee scale to adjust fees based on income. Call (517) 882-4000 or email bhintake@childandfamily.org

Community Mental Health- Clinton- Eston- Ingham

The Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties holds this vision of a community:

A community defined by justice for persons with mental health needs. Persons with mental health needs include those with a mental illness, an emotional disturbance, a developmental disability, and/or a substance use disorder.

Substance Use Assessment and Treatment 
  • Provides assessment and referral, case management, individual, group, and family therapy. Covered through Medicaid insurance may be eligible to receive block grant funding in certain situations to cover treatment. Parenting Program 
  • Free-Teaches essential skills for parents with children 0-6 years old. Topics include healthy communication, how to address different stages of development, and how to discipline children without the use of physical punishment. Anger Management Program 
  • Free- An educational group program for individuals who struggle with emotional regulation and want to develop healthy stress coping mechanisms. Eligibility: 18 and over Application Process: Call (517) 372-4700 ext. 140 to set up an appointment. 
Roots and Wings 
  • Free- A parent and teen (ages 7-17) program that helps strengthen families by teaching them how to build healthy and clear communication skills. Eligibility: Parents of children ages 7-17 and children ages 7-17. Application Process: Call (517) 372-4700 ext. 140 to set up an appointment. 
The Cristo Rey Prescription Assistance Program 
  • Matches qualifying individuals without prescription medication coverage directly to pharmaceutical companies for essential medications at no cost. Eligible clients receive free quality of life medications including but not limited to insulin, inhalers, anti-depressants and antibiotics.

Community Kitchen 
  • Free- Offers hot breakfast from 9:00-10:30am and hot lunch 11:30-1:00 pm, Monday through Friday. All are welcome.  
Food Pantry 
  • Free-Offers non-perishable fresh food items. All are welcome. Appointments only, clients may call to schedule at 517-372-4700. Walk-in emergency food kits are given to those without permanent residency.  
Bread Rack 
  • Free-Offers a limit of 2 loaves of bread to every household, 5 days a week. All are welcome. Hours: Monday through Friday: 8am-5pm no appointment necessary.  
The Community Clothing Closet 
  • Free- provides gently used or new clothing for men, women and children. Individuals may go once a month to receive items. This is a donation-based program, item availability may be limited. Call ahead of time for updated availability.  (517) 372-4700 
Personal Needs Program 
  • Free- Distributes personal hygiene items, laundry items and feminine products. This is a donation-based program, item availability may be limited. Clients may come once per calendar month to receive items. Walk-ins are welcome (during hours only) Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 1pm.  (517) 372-4700 
Baby and Diaper Program 
  • Free- Distributes items that may include diapers, wipes, formula, and various other baby food items. This is a donation-based program, item availability may be limited. The Davies Project

Eastside Community Action Center

Inspire to Achieve

  • Program matches individual students to positive, adult role models for mentorship, guidance, encouragement, and tutoring. For youth ages 8-16.

After School Action Program

  • ASAP provides children with tutorial and homework assistance, light meals, character building activities, and computer skill training.

Off the Streets Anti-Violence Initiative

  • For male youth ages 12-18

Housing Opportunity Program

  • ECAC's Housing Program serves to offer referrals to resources and support to our neighbors seeking to become "mortgage ready" and transition from renting to homeownership on the Eastside of Lansing.

C.O.P.E.-Community Outreach Program with Expectation

  • The Community Outreach Program with Expectation is designed to meet the individualized needs of people exactly where they are. C.O.P.E assists individuals released from jail or prison, individuals recovering from domestic violence situations and/or the trauma of divorce, and individuals returning from substance abuse treatment.

Community Food Pantry

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 1pm-5pm
  • ECAC provides families with emergency food assistance in the City of Lansing. Many families come to us when their food supply and food stamps are low or diminished at the end of the month and we help fill in that time so no one goes hungry.

Community Clothing Closet

  • Free clothing is provided to men, women, and children in the City of Lansing. Residents are able to get the clothing they need for work, school, and everyday life.

Access-4-All Vaccine Transport Service 

Door to door shuttle service to get COVID-19 boosters/ vaccine, and/or flu shot. Just call and they will set up the appointment for you, then pick you up from your home, take you to get the vaccine, and bring you home afterwards. They will also do follow-up if you need to get another booster and will schedule that on your behalf. Everything free of charge.  Call: (517) 853-0414 

Teen Talk

Ele's Place

  • Eles Place serves grieving children, teens, young adults, and their families from throughout Mid-Michigan. They hold in-person peer support groups weekly Monday–Thursday throughout the school year and Family Nights once a month in the summer. They also offer Ele’s Groups at schools throughout the area. Support groups for parents/guardians of the children and teens are also available and are facilitated by licensed clinicians. Give-A-Kid-Projects

Give-A-Kid-A-Backpack 
  • Hosted every year in the Holt School Districts, this program gives kids who sign up a free backpack, new outfit, and shoe for the start of a new school year.
Give-A-Kid-A-Coat 
  • Provides gently used coats and other winter accessories, as well as warm clothing for adults and children. Serves entire families in Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton counties. 
Give-A-Kid 360 
  • Provides gently used household items that a family may need, including dishes, pots and pans, linens, and bedding. They also provide gently used clothing for the entire family after facing unforeseen circumstances such as a fire or flood. For support contact the local Christian Services helpline at (517) 394-5411. The helpline is available Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The MSU Couple and Family Therapy Clinic

  • The MSU Couple and Family Therapy Clinic serves clients from the Greater Lansing area. We provide services to couples, families, and individuals on a sliding fee scale ($20-$80 pers session, depending on annual family income and size), and services are provided by graduate students under the supervision of faculty in the MSU Couple and Family Therapy program. Supervisors are fully licensed clinicians and Approved Supervisors per the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy guidelines.

  • The Salus Center offers a variety of peer workshops and support groups geared toward the LGBTQ+ community to create a safe and affirming environment. REACH Art Studio Center

  •  REACH Studio Art Center is a vibrant non-profit community art center offering creative out-of-school engagement in the arts for all ages and abilities with classes and workshops taught by local teaching artists.   • The Capital Area College Access Network (CapCAN) is a community collaborative focused on increasing post-secondary education as an achievable reality for all residents by fostering high educational aspirations through the alignment of their institutions and resources. They serve Ingham and Eaton counties, and aim to increase college and post-secondary readiness, participation, and completion. CapCAN targets their support and services to low-income communities of color and first-generation students. 
  • CapCAN partners with schools in the local community to connect students to advisors who help them navigate and plan for life after High School. Including support with college applications, scholarships, FASFA, and trade school, all well helping students build their network.   • Todd Martin Youth Leadership exists to prepare young people, especially those from under-resourced families and communities, for success as individuals and as active, responsible citizens through innovative tennis, education, life skills, and leadership development programming. 
  • TMYL partners with local schools and the Lansing Parks and Recreation to offer tutoring during the school year, after school programs/clubs that focus on sports and physical activity, as well as summer programs and scholarships for kids/teens in the Lansing area. The center has a free store which houses a variety of maternity and baby clothes/items (strollers, pumps, toys). The center also hosts free parenting, childbirth, lactation, and CPR classes.
