Confidentiality Policy

In order for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky County to provide responsible, professional service to clients, it is necessary for volunteers, clients and parents or guardians of clients to divulge extensive personal information about themselves and their families.  The agency respects the confidentiality of client and volunteer records.  Such personal information about clients and volunteers shall be shared only among the agency professional staff, with the exception of the specific situations described in the next pages.

I agree to keep information about a Little (potential or actively matched) confidential.  I will not discuss this information with any person other than the assigned professional staff of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country. It is very important to keep child safety and confidentiality issues in mind. I will not use the Little’s full name nor any identifying details regarding the Little and his/her family when talking about the match to friends, family, co-workers, and/or when posting to any social media sites.

I understand that, as a volunteer, I cannot share photos, images, or other information about anyone I am mentoring on social media. I will not add or "friend" them on any social media platform. I also understand that while I am in the program, I represent the BBBS-BSC organization, and will refrain from posting words, images, and video recordings that go against the mission, vision, and goals of BBBS-BSC.

Ground Rules and Guidelines

Child Safety

BBBS takes a Safety First approach. We believe that all children and youth deserve to live in a world that makes them feel cared for and protected. As a volunteer...
  1. I will be aware of everyone's personal boundaries regarding physical contact.  For example, especially in the early stages of the volunteering, ask others if it’s okay to give a hug.  Other forms of physical contact such as tickling, wrestling, patting, etc. are more likely to violate their boundaries and should not occur.
  2. I understand that the display or discussion of any materials of a sexual nature are prohibited.
  3. I understand that if anyone shares that they plan to harm themselves or others, or they are being harmed, I am required to report that immediately to staff at the Little's school, and the BBBS staff.
  4. If I suspect any sign of abuse or neglect, I will let BBBS staff know immediately.
  5. I understand that if I share with BBBS staff that I plan to harm myself or others, or I am being harmed, the BBBS staff will report that information to my school counselor and/or other appropriate contacts.

BBBS Ground Rules and Guidelines

  1. I understand that consistency is one of the most important things I can do as a mentor; therefore, I will volunteer as arranged by the BBBS-BSC staff
  2. If I am unable to meet, I will notify BBBS staff.
  3. I understand that all contact with group participants is restricted to BBBS-BSC approved platforms.
  4. I will not try to convert anyone to my religious or political views.
  5. I will refrain from using offensive and/or inappropriate language and gestures.
  6. I will follow all rules and policies of the BASEcamp while I am at their facility.
  7. I will not use my cell phone while I am volunteering.
  8. I understand that I might learn personal information about participants and their family members, and I will keep that information confidential.
  9. If a problem arises, if I have questions or concerns, or if a participant tells me something that makes me uncomfortable, I will notify BBBS staff immediately.
  10. I understand that gift giving is discouraged. If I want to bring participants something, I will ask BBBS staff first.
  11. I understand that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country does not condone the use of alcohol, tobacco or illegal substances of any kind while a Big is volunteering. Students who fail to comply with the Drug, Tobacco and Alcohol Policy of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country will be terminated from the Program.
  12. I agree to inform Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country if, after I am matched and have become a Big Brother/Big Sister, I am charged with an MIP (Minor in Possession) and/or a DUI (Driving Under the Influence).  I acknowledge and agree that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country may consult with my Little’s parent/guardian and school staff.  The decision whether or not to maintain the Match and remain as an active participant in the program rests with the BBBS staff, the school staff and/or with the parent/guardian of the Little.

Acknowledgement of Obligations

I agree to take an active part in Big Brothers Big Sisters. I understand that this is a volunteer opportunity and that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country is not obligated to assign me a Little.

I also acknowledge and agree that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country staff are mandatory reporters and are obligated to report any behaviors relating to illegal drugs, abuse or neglect to the proper authorities.

I understand information about me will be prepared by the Program Staff of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country and I consent to its disclosure to arrange a potential Little for me.  I understand that I will not be identified by last name until after the match has been agreed upon. I give permission for the matching information to be shared with a potential Little only under the above conditions.
