Enrolling a youth in the Denver metro area

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado offers several types of mentoring programs in the Denver metro area. Below is some information on each program. Don't worry, you don't need to make a decision before inquiring! We can help you make that choice and will be available to answer any questions you have!
Criteria
To be a candidate for our programs:
  • Youth must be between the ages of 9-13 at the time of enrollment.
  • We prioritize youth who are from a single-parent household, kinship care, or are from a nontraditional household.
  • We prioritize youth who are low-income or facing adversity.
We also consider:
  • Is the youth and family interested in participating in the program?
  • Is the youth in the right place to start the program?
Service Area:
  • We serve the Denver metro area including Denver, Jefferson, Arapahoe, and Adams County.
  • We serve the southern part of Boulder county and the City of Boulder (Unfortunately we do not currently have a presence in Longmont)
  • We serve the northern part of Douglas County in the metro area.
  • At this time we do not have a presence in Larimer and Weld County.
  • If you do not live in our service area and would like to locate other mentoring agencies in Colorado please click here.
If the child does not meet our qualifications or is outside the 9-13 age range there are several other mentoring agencies operating in Colorado. Please click here for more information about other agencies.

Program Option: Community Mentoring
Our traditional program in which each Big and Little meet several times per month and choose activities to do together in the community based on shared interests and goals.
  • Mentors and mentees commit to meet two to four times a month for 2-4 hours per activity.
  • Mentors and Parents / Guardians communicate with one another to determine when match gets together.
  • Matches choose their activities together; expectation is that activities are low- and no-cost.
  • BBBSC program staff supervise the match and provide support to all parties.
Program Option: Sports Buddies
Our sports-focused program where matches meet one or two times per month to participate in agency supervised activities that involve attending and/or participating in sports.
  • Mentors and mentees build relationships at structured, staff-facilitated, sports-related events.
  • BBBSC program staff supervise the match and provide support to all parties.
  • Events and activities are all planned for matches and are 100% free.
  • Transportation to events is required. Youth will meet their Big Brother at the event. Unfortunately this program is not a good fit for families that use public transportation.
  • Most events are on Saturdays (2-4 hours). Youth need to be available 1-2 Saturdays a month
Current Waitlist Status

We currently have a waitlist in the Denver Metro Area for:

  • Male youth
  • Families who are primarily Spanish Speaking applying to the program.
Families who meet our basic qualifications, are in our current age range, and have completed an application will be placed on the waitlist and called when interviews become available. Notification that you have been placed on the waitlist will come via email, and you will receive a phone call for prescreening when you are removed from the waitlist. To make sure you do not lose your spot in line, please make sure to update us of any phone, email, or address changes.
