BlankVolunteer Inquiry

PLEASE NOTE
Hello and thank you for inquiring about Big Brothers Big Sisters.  BBBSCC serves Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, and York Counties.  Please see below for next steps for each county.

Cabarrus County -- Please complete the form below to begin the enrollment process.

Mecklenburg and York County -- Due to a temporary staffing shortage, our response time may be longer than usual. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to assist you as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your interest in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas!   All volunteer Bigs go through a screening process to help create meaningful, lasting mentoring relationships.  The application and enrollment process takes an average of 6 months to complete.  Volunteers are matched based on preferences and mutual interests and interviews are prioritized based on the likelihood of a successful match with a Little.  Once matched, you will have on-going support throughout your mentoring relationship.  Please be on the lookout for an email to attend our virtual orientation.
Big Sisters:  Please note
At this time, we are not scheduling interviews for potential Big Sisters in our Mecklenburg and York County Community-Based programs due to fewer Little Sisters waiting. However, we do have other ways to make a difference through BBBSCC:

Other ways to get involved:

  • Volunteer as a Big Sister in our Cabarrus Community-Based Program.
  • Volunteer as a Big Sister at Coltrane Webb Elementary in Concord; Forest Park Elementary in Kannapolis; Reid Park Academy, Cornelius Elementary, Billingsville Elementary and Cotswold Elementary in Mecklenburg County .
  • Volunteer as a Big for our SUCCESS program at Ft  Mill Middle School.  This program focuses on college and career readiness for students in grades 8 - 12 and meets virtually every other week.
  • Sponsor a match by donating here: Donate to BBBSCC Online

If you choose to continue and complete an inquiry form, we will keep your information on file and reach out in the future when we are able to resume scheduling Big Sisters for our programs.

Thank you for understanding.

Big Brothers Big Sisters offers two types of programs.  Please let us know if you have a preference:

Our Community-Based Program allows the Big and Little to meet at their convenience. These are one-to-one outings and activities such as taking a walk in the park; going to a museum; listening to music; hanging out and talking; or attending BBBS match events.  Some Bigs meet their Littles on the weekends; others get together after school or in the early evening. Each match is unique and develops a schedule that works for them.  You must be 21 years old to participate in this program.

If you have limited flexibility, our Site-Based Program may be the option for you, as Bigs and Littles meet at school during the lunch hour.  Typically, you have lunch, read, play a game, work on an assignment, or play on the playground together. These activities are teacher approved and aim to support academic achievement, social skills, and self-awareness. At the end of the day, it’s really all about starting a friendship, providing guidance, and inspiring your Little to reach his or her full potential.

Currently, Big Brothers Big Sisters offers Site-Based Programs at Reid Park Academy, Billingsville Elementary, Cotswold Elementary, Governor's Village STEM Academy, Montclaire Elementary,  and Cornelius Elementary in Mecklenburg County; Coltrane-Webb Elementary and Forest Park Elementary in Cabarrus County.
